moving house and wont to change my package

i am moving house in a weeks time and my new house has a virgin media connection already to the house, but i would also like to change my package as i am paying a lot for what i have and my contract has just ended.

i would also like a second box installed upstairs is this possible or is there another way that i can get my tv service and broadband upstairs without having a second box, and would this have to be done by an engineer or is it something that i could do myself.

would it be easier to take out a new contract to get a better price for the same package i have now and would that mean having to go through all the stuff i had to do when i took out my package two years ago such as credit referencing and setting up a new direct debit and a like, i am happy with my package but it has nearly doubled in price since my contract ended in august which is not good

I think that if you cancel your current contact with 30 days notice at the current address and then start as a new user at the new address, you should get the current cheap rates that are available for new users.

      Hi hertsmil

Good luck with the home move, I hope it goes smoothly.

You need to be aware that if you move home and sign up as a new customer then you will have to return all of your current equipment.  If you currrently have a VM landline then you will lose your VM phone number when cancelling.   You will also find that any VM/NTL/BlueYonder email addresses that you may have would be due to be closed after 90 days.

The Stream (Flex) box became the default TV offering  for all of VM's new customers around 6 months ago.  The good thing about these boxes is that they are more portable. You can move them from room to room as they don't require cabling.

Is the VM broadband at the new property  XGS-PON (Full Fibre) with speeds up to 2 Gig, or is it on the older DOCSIS cable network which uses coaxial copper cables carrying both the linear broadcast TV channels & the DOCSIS internet?

If it's in the current expansion areas supplying a full fibre connection then only IPTV is available via the Stream box(es), so you would be unable to record TV programs. You would however be able to have up to 6 Stream boxes in total.

Again if your new house is  in  a Full Fibre area then you will receive a hub 5x - these hubs don't have modem mode.  There is no telephony service provision in Full Fibre areas.

If your new house is on the older DOCSIS cable network then if you want a recordable TV set top box then you would need to request a TV360 box via the Sales team on 0800 183 1234 and there would be a £49.99 activation charge. Any other additional boxes would be the Stream boxes.

The first additional box would be an extra £10 per month, and any subsequent boxes would be an extra £5 per month.
