linking virgin media account to virgin media O2 ID account

Hi all - hoping posting here can shed some light on this whole process. I am a new customer with virgin media, and have just been sent all the emails through with my contract etc. on the email address I used to set up the account. The emails said to set up the My Virgin Media account, so I clicked the link and registered my Virgin Media O2 ID account. It then said to link that account to my Virgin Media account, however when I did so, it said that the email accounts don’t match, even though I used the same email address for both:

“We’ve found your Virgin Media account

However, this account is linked to an email address that’s different to the one on your Virgin Media O2 ID.

If you’d like to continue and link your Virgin Media account to your Virgin Media O2 ID, please confirm the full email address your Virgin Media account is currently registered to.

We’ll then send an email to that email address to approve the transfer.”

So I put my email in (the one from which I received all emails about my contract setup), but it is saying the email address doesn’t match even though I literally copy pasted it from my contract document. It gave me five attempts to put my email in and the same error message came up each time - I now have one attempt left and don’t want to use it in case my account gets blocked. Please could anyone advise on what I’m doing wrong or if this is a glitch or something?? It’s a bit of a niche problem I think, and I couldn’t find anything on the FAQs! I feel like I’m going insane because I’ve checked the email so many times to make sure there are no typos or anything but it’s still not working!

    I have had my email account for ages and the same password, now when i try and login to read my email it sends me to a site called virgin02 , is this a forwarding scam or something you have rolled out just to upset you r existing customers ?

  • I am having EXACTLY the same issue. Why not tell us the generic solution rather contact people individually!

      I'm having exactly the same issue, come on Virgin Media 02,provide us with a generic email to sort this out, I never received a email on how to register

  • Also having the same issue.  Only just signed up for o2 and Virgin. Only using one email that all the contracts have been sent to and it's telling me I cannot link the o2 account and the virginmedia account because the email address is wrong.

    If you have changed your contact email to be different from your existing login email (for MyVirginMedia, usually a VM or legacy former operator hosted email), you must use that email to start the process. During the process you can then specify a different recovery email, a new password & two factor authentication via either a passkey or text message. A bit laborious, but the whole thing took me about 15 minutes (most of that waiting for the text code to appear).

      Thanks for the advice! However the main issue was that I have only ever used one email for anything Virgin media-related (bearing in mind I literally only became a customer this past Friday, and have not been with Virgin or even any broadband company at all in the past) so I just didn’t understand how it wouldn’t be recognising my email when I know I have not used any other address. 

      The forum team have raised an IT ticket on the issue now, so I’m hoping the problem will be resolved fairly soon!

      I've got the same issues. What's the actual problem? If I can't link my account then I can't access anything online!
