Leaving Virgin

Well recent bill today was almost double what I had started with broadband only as I was out of contract thought I would check the present deals and for package I have it's new customer £29.99 when I paid just over £50 today's Bill so after going through chat bot then chat to person I looked out number to call VM

Result was I'm leaving as they said best deal they could do was £49 so on my 30 day notice

After years with Virgin it's time to look for another internet supplier

  • As far as VM are concerned, which is technically correct, you are not a new customer, so new customer prices do not apply.

But @madric can be a new customer again. Just somewhere else.

  • Hello madric

Sorry to hear of the package cost and problems negotiating a new deal, we understand the frustration and you taking the time to raise this via the forums.

As with all providers we do offer introductory offers to new customers, at the start of all of our customers time with us they will have benefited from such a deal. Once this expires we'll always do all we can to offer the best existing customer deal available.

As you have advised you have given your 30 days notice, the team will likely reach out to you during this time with an offer.

  • Update started new internet supplier today had no correspondence from Virgin since started 30 day notice but after almost 20 years with them  I'll see what new ones like after couple months

Thanks for the update madric, and we're sorry to hear that choosing a new provider was your preference on this occasion.

I'd be happy to take a closer look into the Virgin Media account to ensure that the disconnection has been placed for you, and when this is due to complete.

Check out the envelope in the top right hand corner for a private message from me.

      Thanks,

      David_Bn

    On our wavelength

Completely agree, cost is ridiculous compared with competition, service appalling.  The only way to talk to a human about any problem is to tell the computer you want to report a death or to leave Virgin.  Either works, nothing else does.  If i did not use my blueyonder address with many friends world wide I'd ditch Virgin today - maybe tomorrow!

"If i did not use my blueyonder address with many friends world wide I'd ditch Virgin today"

And therein is the problem, the email address, and as long as you need it then VM have you by the short and curlies, You will stay with VM and you will suck up and accept any and all increase they demand; no?

So what do you need to do? Well start the process of shifting all of your contacts away from  the BY address, yes it won't be easy, it'll be a lot of work, but it will free you from any dependence on VM.

What will you do when Virginmedia finally tell you that they are going to close down the email?

Hi VK50 👋 welcome back to the community forum! Thanks for joining this thread and sharing your feedback.
Sorry to hear you haven't had the best experience getting in touch when seeking support for issues! Is there anything in specific you are having problems with that we should be aware of? We're happy to offer help from here!

It is true to say that you would loose access to the Blueyonder email address if leaving our services. Hopefully we can help put things right and improve your experience so you aren't considering this as an option! Just let us know what you need help with.

Wishing you all the best. 🌞

  • I suggest everybody watches " Cut the Cord ".  It is about leaving the likes of Sky and Virgin Media with their multi packages and long contracts of 18/24 months with possibly 2 hikes in price in April every year.  They must have hundreds of customers wanting to leave, or like me will be leaving with my 30 day notice going in July so very soon.  I will be out of contract on 20th August 2025 and I cannot wait.  I`m currently on the top package and was paying £79 per month which is reasonable, it has now gone up to £88.  My initial chat with VM about a new deal was a price increase up to £139 per month.  I have done some research and will go with TOOB for my broadband at £25 per month on an 18 month contract, that is fibre from cabinet to door rather than copper wire with VM and 900 upload and 900 download speeds.  I will get NOW TV for my Sports channels and the basic Freeview for my normal channels for £34.99p a month.  I don`t need a Landline anymore so another saving.  So for £59.99p I will be saving £79.01 a month and a massive £1,422.18p over a 18 month contract.  If you haven`t got TOOB in your area you can get EE or BT and I`m sure you will save money.  They try to make it as difficult as they can for you to leave, but if you get messed around by them you can go to the right authorities to keep them in check.  It`s time to say no to these bully tactics from the likes of Sky and VM.  Customer of more than 30+ years saying goodbye very soon.

        Tuning in

The next time I contact VM will be to ring them and give my 30 day`s notice.  I don`t think they will get anywhere near £60 for me to renew, they have obviously tightened up on offering long term customers decent discounts, as they are all saved to get new customers tied in to 18/24 month contracts with 2 price increases per year.  Also, the O2 sim card on offer, which is billed for by O2 separately from your VM billing.  So, you could pay VM £115 for your services and then £25 for the sim card.  So be careful what you sign up for?  A couple of contracts ago I had the Oomph deal which included the Unlimited sim deal, which I had, however, when they took it out I had to change down to a lower tariff.  I now have 4 x mobiles for the family all on 18 months 10GB x 2 with the volt benefit for £10 a month.  I think that the fact they have chucked in the sim card again has given them the right to charge a higher price for packages.  I`ve got no complaints with VM as I have been with them for 30+ years, but feel that deals are harder to come by now, and think that you will just put up with it because its easier.  Other offers are now available, other fast broadband suppliers, like TOOB are in my street, that`s all I need to be able to get NOW TV and Sky Sports which is what I watch most of.  If I can get something around the £60-65 mark then I will probably stay, but am ready with a like for like service lined up if all else fails.  Let`s see how much they want to keep long term customers?

I would suggest, as I have done twice, put your official cancellation in writing, using Recorded and Signed For delivery.  Doing this, I have never had any issues when leaving VM.
