Help with broadband only package

Hi can anyone help please? We gave notice to Virgin Media earlier in the week for all of our services (tv. broadband and telephone) as the price had increased so much we no longer thought it value for money. I have just contacted Virgin Media again to ask how much per month it would be to keep our Broadband only - and I have been quoted £92 per month - I’m not entirely sure the agent understood what I was asking for but that’s the price I was given! Is this correct? It seems ridiculously high when the whole package was going to be £117.  We can get Sky Gigafast fibre for £44 per month and it seems unlikely that their price is more than double. We have a router already as our service does not expire until 4th March (approx) TIA

  • Hi SLB6771

Welcome to forums and sorry to hear you are unhappy with a deal offered to you. We truly aim to provide the best-suited package to your needs. Generally, new customer deals have a welcome discount hence the price difference. Additionally, bundles (TV, broadband and landline) tend to have more discounts available. We would be happy to take a look into current deals for you. Please keep an eye out for an envelope at the top right corner of your Forum page. Let me know if you have any issues locating this.

    Thanks,

  • It's the highest I have ever seen quoted by VM for broadband only (assuming you are not on the brand new XGS-PON tier of 2 Gbps symmetrical). The forum staff are usually reluctant to engage with renewal pricing so do take us Aqua's offer here to see what can be done.

    On our wavelength

Same thing happened to me last year , I rang up to get a better deal , now I'm not a person who wants something for nothing . I made about 5 long phone calls to off seas call centre and the best they could come up with was £4 off or more channels , I explained I have not used my house phone in over 6 years and I don't watch  TV , so all I want is Internet service nothing more . Still no go , so I rang to cancel my contract with Virgin and move to another provider, because I was being made redundant and could not afford the £92ish per month . After the lady started to read off the script what takes 5 minuets I told her to stop and just put cancelation in progress , what she refused to do . After a few mins she came back with £42 package plus move over to 02 for £6 a month. something like that. so I agreed . The time and stress it causes just to get someone on the phone who will actually help you is like winning the lottery . Well this month get a message saying my package will be going to to nearly £100 a month from October , so here we go again . But in the mean time City Fibre have put cables down to all of the houses in the area. I think Virgin need to relook at how they are pricing and dealing with customers because they have strong competition now.

Things you need to know is that Docsis will likely be the least connection type to give out unique IP's and WAN IP to your device as fibre will be ready IP Address Sharing and likely be focused to be behind ISP hub NAT and DMZ will go port forwarding by port range will go and you be only be able to do a max number of one port at a time the way in which its done will be terrible of course the system can be FU by everyone wanting the same port which will break even my system of how I think IP Address Sharing can be done. The most troubling thing is this will not impact some people maybe even you but those who want a unique IP and WAN IP to there device will likely not be given the option for it even at a cost.
