Extorniate offer of renewal

Good Afternoon

Just rang up the retentions team as my 18month contract is coming to an end, I'm currently paying £78 per the mega volt bundle. I was expecting a slight increase but was offered £178 per month, it wasnt even up for discussion. This makes absolutely no sense as a new customer can get said package for £84.99 per month.

Is this happening to other people? I'm at a loss as what to do as i want to keep my current services.

thanks in advance.

Yes, this seems to be the current pattern of behaviour for VM's stage 1 renegotiation processes, a 'take-it-or-leave-it' high renewal offer at the first contact.

You will find a lot of other examples of people complaining about the same things in other topics along with some suggestions on tactics.

  • goslow,

    thanks for your feedback.

Hopefully one of the VM admin team see this, as it seems utterly pointless for me to cancel my VM for then my wife to ring up and take out the services in here name.

also just had what looked like a 'nice' offer direct from the website which offered £86 a month, but was only for 12 months of an 18 month contract where the remainder 6 months would be £221 per month. Honestly shocked at how decietful VM are being.

It's clearly worth their while to try this. There will be some customers too busy to check the new price or to wait for hours on the phone, and we have seen relatives of elderly customers who haven't understood that they have been taken for a ride.

The obvious answer to this financial thuggery is to immediately give 30 days notice for the end of the current contract. But you will need to check whether you have an alternative supplier at adequate speeds. VM will of course have already checked what's available at your postcode, and this informs their tactics when you try to argue the price.

Edit: I've just seen your last post. By all means cancel, and get your wife to sign up. This is not entirety straightforward as you have to return the equipment, but would certainly be a cost saving move.

      Thanks for your reply.

I'm shocked we would have to go through the hassle of canceling, returning the equipment and then waiting for a new install ...it boggles the mind. It may just have to be done.

It's what I did last year. Waited for Black Friday and then got a much better deal. Been a customer since 2007. Alleged retentions messed me around with dodgy phone line quality and passed to various people. I wasn't prepared to pay stupid pricing, and if it comes up in the future, I still won't :)

They had cost of collecting kit, refurbishing it and they lost out on Flex Stream revenue, because I haven't taken it this time, because I refuse to pay £35 for an "activation fee" when Sky Stream has £0. Until that changes, they get nowt extra from me.
