Email from Virgin saying I need to make a payment

I've been with Virgin for years and have paid with direct debit which usually goes out every month on the 5th or 6th of the month I received a email this morning saying I have an outstanding balance and I should pay it now ,giving me various ways to pay it. The payment does not go out of my bank for a couple of days so how can it be outstanding!!!!

They seem to have my details correct

I'm not happy about making an online payment!!

Got same thing this morning! Payment is via Direct Debit and goes out same time every month. The payment in question went out on the 5th October, next payment will go out in 2 days time. Can you please check and advise what is going on please?

  • Just had the same thing, says my payment is overdue.  Always paid by DD and the payments have all come out as normal.  Called VM and spoke to a representative who just said "It's an error" but it doesn't fill me with confidence.  Glad to see I'm not the only one though.

What option did you press to speak to a human being ? :) All the best

  • I have just had the same. I have checked both with My Media app and bank and payments are up to date with next payment due on 5 Nov. Is this a phishing email? Worrying as only a minor mistake in the payment reference number but account number and other details are correct. I wonder too if VM have been hacked. I have changed my password. Don't think I can do any more?

Same on mine, minor difference in the payment reference, a 6 on the email instead of a 1.

  • Yes, the same has happened to me this morning, tried ringing the number and all I got was a series of silly texts no matter what option I chose. As it is so close to the DD day DD is likely to be programmed to be applied for and quite possible this could prompt a duplicate payment, which is very unprofessional indeed. I work in the Credit Industry and find this practice very disapointing. I WOULD SAY IT'S ESSENTIal

(Continued) That virgin stops it immediately and opens a telephone line with real people to deal with such things.

  • Just had the same, payment went out on 6th October. Replied to email for explanation, let’s see if they respond?

Another one here, account details correct  but payment not outstanding DD due soon. keeping eye on account to make sure  payment is correct.

  • Got the same message; checked my bank account and payment WAS collected contrary to VM's assertion. I've just about had it with VM after all that B*llocks with the O2 merger authentication problem. Why the F doesnt VM respond quickly to these issues flagged up so widely by Community Forum members? They need a new Chief Executive to sort them out - any interest, Elon?

    Up to speed

    Hi...

This is not the first time VM have done this. (Probably won't be the last).

They have done this before in April... Sent out loadsa emails about missing payment. I got one saying I owed them money even though payments were on DD...

But they missed me out this time round.

I made a complaint back then about it re the stress and hassle of checking with my bank etc...and they responded with a £10 credit and an apology of sorts.

Would they be so generous again?
