Early cancellation fee AND disconnected a month early

I am cancelling my Internet as I have lost my job and have NO income and virgin media want to charge me nearly £300 to cancel, they have absolutely no soul and don't care they are taking money I need for food. They said they will take a charge in early Feb and I raised a complaint. I then received an email saying this was sorted but it wasn't, nothing has been sorted.

Now, my Internet has been disconnected a whole month early so I am paying for the privelage of no Internet and nearly £300 for the pleasure. What is this company?! Does anyone have any info on how to escalate this as this company are criminals.

I really advise against anyone going with virgin media, do they really need to bully nearly £300 out from a jobless person.

    Hi VMmafiatactic

Sorry to read about your job predicament. I hope something turns up soon for you.

If you haven't actually cancelled yet (you say you've been disconnected a month early) and VM have cut off the internet due to late/non payment there may be a way round this.

If the early disconnection is due to payments then bring your payments up to date, the Collections team can look into this and maybe set up an installment plan.   Once the payments are up to date you can then look into switching to VM's Essential broadband package.

If they have mistakingly disconnected a month early and payments are up to date then VM should be able to reconnect you. Then ask them about switching to the Essential broadband package.  See https://www.virginmedia.com/broadband/low-income-families

Customers that are on either Pension Credit, Universal Credit, Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, or Income-based Employment Support Allowance are eligible for Essential broadband packages. Only the account holder receiving any of those benefits is eligible.

If you do qualify for the above then since you’re already in a contract with VM they can swap you over to one of the Essential broadband packages straight away and you won’t have to pay any fees or extra charges. (That also means you don't have to pay off the nearly £300 early termination charges)

Go to live chat using the above linked page for more details.

      Hi

I'm getting the same - I've had 3 differing amounts for the EDF the last one double the initial EDF - VM 'taking the mick' methinks !

+ other stuff - I'm new to this so bear with me.  I had M125 "Fibre" (not anywhere near fibre optic and slow and un reliable for the last few years)  in Camden in london NW! and it has been totally offline for about 25+ days from July - Decmber 24 2024.  -  Their compo policy cites £9.46 per day for every day offline.  They initially offered me £15.00 and after an exhausting series of telecoms upped to £30.00.  I was not a happy bunny !   After some vigorous conversations with their Resolution wotevs Team, threats of Ombudsman, Local press and a researcher from BBC Breakfast, I settled for 14 days of compo - about £136.??

Has anybody else in North London had this proble I wonder ?
