Contract Renewal Process

This is more of a rant than a question.

I am currently on an 18 month contract which is about to expire. I wish to negotiate a new deal not surprisingly the quotes I'm being given are more expensive than I want to pay. I'm prepared to downgrade my package but they tell me that will be even more expensive because the top package I'm currently on is heavily discounted and they can't, or won't, discount the lower packages. Basically to get the lowest price I have to be on the highest package.

I know from personal experience that if I change supplier VM will offer me a great deal but I can't talk to anyone with the authority to make such a deal without formally cancelling my services. Additionally if I give notice to cancel it will happen 30 days from date of notification even if that is before my contract ends.

Utter madness.

In all likelihood I will arrange a deal with Sky and not bother telling VM. They can sort it out between themselves.

Be wary of the OTS, in that some threads here are reporting the switching is not working as expected.  Personally, I would do the switching manually when your contract is within the 30 day contract end date.  You may or may not get a call back from Retentions.

I hear what you say about OTS but it can't be worse than the balls up Virgin made when I transferred the other way. I've started the process so I guess I will soon find out. I've agreed a 2 year deal with Sky and will be saving £40 per month. VM sent me 2 almost identical emails, 15 minutes apart, quoting 2 different prices for early termination.

        Hi Grahammc,

I'm sorry to hear you've decided to leave.

If you've received the email from us, this means we have received the switch request.

I'll pop you a private message so I can advise on the final bill/disconnection fee for you.

Please look out for the envelope in the top right of the page and pop back to me when you can.

  • I meant to add in that the only thing they would allow me to drop from my package was TNT Sports. This appears on my bill as an £18 address on. Removing from a new deal would save me £10.🤷

      Hi Grahammc,

We're very sorry to hear the team we're unable to offer a price you were happy with.

We don't do package changes here on the forums, however we'd recommend waiting until around 30 days prior to the end of your contract term as that is when the team will have the renewal deals for you.

You'll also see these via your online My Virgin Media account at that time.

If you have any further questions, please pop back to us and we'd be happy to help.
