VM phishing email but VM aren't interested

I get this email spam email regularly and I forward on to the phishing email address at VirginMedia, and this is their standard response:

Thanks for checking in with us. We’re only able to confirm if emails sent from Virgin Media O2 are genuine. As the email you received appears to come from someone else, you’ll need to contact that company using their official contact details to check if it’s real.

Treat the email with caution – don’t click on any links or share personal details until you’ve confirmed it’s genuine.

Does VM not do anything about scammers pretending to be VM any more? Or is this just another indication that VM is washing its hands of its email service altogether and you just can't be bothered to do anything about it?

VM publishes example scam messages at the top of the security forum

Security matters | Virgin Media Community

Your example may well end up there at some point. The examples are all fairly generic and follow similar styles and themes, as does the example you have posted.

I posted it because VM are telling me I need to contact the company being impersonated … which of course is VM 🤦‍♂️

How do you think VM would be able to find the scammers?

Read what’s happening. It’s VM that are saying I need to report the phishing attempt to the company that is being impersonated … which is VM 🤦‍♂️

What they choose to do about it is up to them, but I’m sure they could be more proactive in stopping these emails getting through to my VM email account in the first place.

For context, I don’t get that kind of half-**bleep** BS from Apple, Microsoft or my mobile provider when I report phishing attempts to them. It’s only VM that try to fob me off.
