Advanced Security offer

Just read about the Advanced Security package , three month free trial and then £35 a year.

I have used the Virgin Media F-Secure Internet package for years, and just renewed it for another year at £25.  Question .....does the new Advance Security package include what is already in the existing Internet security package, or is it an add on ?

if I opt for the new Advance Security package, what do I pay ?

Andrew

I would appreciate you explaining your reasoning for that.  It may help me reaching a decision.

      Thanks

  • Considering signing up so why is it not needed?

    More advice would be good.

I believe the new VM “Advanced Security” is the F-Secure "Internet Security" + the "Id Protection" packages.

The Internet Security is the traditional package containing the Browsing Protection, Anti Virus, Ransomware Protection etc. The Id Protection is additional protection benefiting from online monitoring of credentials, breach alerts, and a password manager including autofill of web forms.

I had also subscribed to the older Internet Security package. I did imagine that would be the case until my next renewal. However, I found that when I logged into my F-Secure control panel I was offered the Id Protection component at a very low price. I presume that they recognise me as a VM customer, so I am entitled to the full package VM provide.

Do you need it and is it worth the cost? If the answer to the first question is “Yes” then the second answer is also yes. If you have any other software that provides similar functionality then the answer might not be clear. Autofill is provided by most browsers. I consider having a password manager essential, but I am unclear what ongoing costs would be if you were to leave VM, and changing a password manager is a pain.  The monitoring of credentials and associated alert in any breach is the thing that might be of most interest. Again, available elsewhere but this might be a convenient package.

If you are interested, go to your F-Secure control panel then you (rather unintuitively) have to select the option to “Manage your subscription” and then “I want to protect more devices”. You don’t – you want to change the protection you have. But that is how to get to the option to do that!
