Hub3: The route(r) of all my problems
My old, perfectly working (but overheating, allegedly) Hub3 was recently replaced with another one of the same. (received August 2nd). Since then however, I have been unable to connect any of my Google Home smart devices. Two clock displays and an outdoor cam. Of the 14 days which have elapsed, I have literally been dealing with Google Support by email on at least 10 of those days. But we're getting nowhere fast. So much so, they are now at the point of offering me a credit for the online Google Store for the inconvenience. But I digress... All of my Google smart devices were working absolutely fine and have been for years. Until now. So, my question is: Are there any changes need to be made to the default settings of my Hub3 router? I do not recall making any specific changes in the past. But I find it extremely odd and frustrating that all was well until I received this new replacement Hub3. Seems to me to be where the problem(s) lie. I tried contacting VM Support initially by chat before coming on here, but I was immediately given a phone number for the Gadget Support Team which I believe is a pay service and I have no intention of doing that. I simply want to know if there's anything obvious I need to change in the Hub3 config. Please help!? You are my last hope before I am forced to ditch all Goggle Home smart devices and replace them with alternatives. (and hope that I do not face similar issues with those). Thanks in advance.Hub5 smart mode
Hub5 insists on smart mode. I need 2.4g WiFi for old devices (ring 2chimer) which will not work in smart mode. All the app will not let me manage network when using two WiFi frequencies . I have to use pc to change anything. This is very frustrating. Had been using hub3 in modem mode and a netgear router and that worked fine using 2.4 and 5ghz frequencies. Not impressed.137Views0likes9CommentsIs the app a necessity for Hub 4? Plus other questions
I've just received an email telling me my old hub that I've had for years (Hub 2) and has mostly been fine is no longer receiving security updates and I've been offered Hub 4. The email mentions that it can be setup and managed via Android app, but I don't want apps for things I've managed without for years. Can I continue to manage Hub 4 via my home IP on a browser, or are there some things locked to the app that I previously accessed by browser? I don't want an out of date hub that's not receiving security updates, but I also don't want any added marketing pzazz "smart intelligent optimisations" or however they put it (it sounds like just setting the channel option to "auto" anyway). I want to set it how I want, without any of said "intelligent" changes ballsing things up (as they inevitably do at some point). Is it possible to switch off said smart features from a browser? I currently use the 2GHz channel for my Home Assistant devices and 5Ghz for my PC, laptop, home server and phone; plus guest channels for visitors, all with different SSIDs. From what I gather the newer hubs don't compartmentalise like that anymore and it will just use one shared SSID and pick the best channel automatically. Am I understanding that correctly and is there a way to manually override that? These concerns aside, how have Hub 4 users found the device itself for reliability and speed? I understand there are issues with the app, but I'm not intending to use that at all.Solved85Views0likes3Comments
