Blueyonder and virginmedia email addresses still active
Hi, I need to deactivate my blueyonder and virginmedia email addresses. I am no longer a customer and haven't been for a long time, but these addresses are still active and have been compromised. They are showing up on clearscore as part off data breaches. Can somebody please help18Views0likes1CommentPotential data breach at virgin media
Its my belief that a data breach has occurred at Virgin Media and worse still they maybe trying to cover it up. When the account was setup with Virgin Media they were provided an email address that does not exist anywhere else and is only used for admin purposes with VM. I create personalised email addresses for even supplier so that I can easily find emails and when I leave I cancel the email address cutting them off and should they leak my email address to someone else then I can trace it back to source. Around three months ago I started receiving emails to the address only given to VM. I contacted that source and asked them where they had got the address from. They said it was within a list they had bought as cleared email addresses to use for marketing reasons. I ask for that source and they provided the details, so I know exactly who gave it to them. I contacted the privacy team at VM and asked if they had shared my email address with anyone. The first response was that they do not share any information with anyone and shut me down. I went back, this time giving them a copies of the marketing emails and again asked how this other company had obtained an email address only shared with VM. This time, I received a telephone call from VM. The person said that they had conducted an investigation and my email address had not been shared with anyone. He then said that he had gone online and searched public marketing databases that had been breached for my email address. At that point I asked him, what permission he had to put my personal email address into a public search facility, he became very coy and wouldn’t answer. I asked him if he were part of the data privacy team or legal team and he said no. I suggested he go back and speak with someone trained in data matters and get clarification as he has just violated my privacy again! A couple of days later I received an automated email from the company that bad been sending marketing information saying that my request to change email address had been processed and gave me the IP of the request. The email address it was changed to was my general email address and the IP address was a virgin media IP. So it seems someone on a VM connection that had both the original email address that was only known to VM and the general email address I use as a throw away email address had gone to that company and requested a change. Very suspicious. I’ve been back to VM and they are being very silent and refuse to respond. They’ve only got a few days left before I report them to the ICO for a potential data breach, I also intend to explain that I believe VM have also tried to cover up the breach. Be on your guard people, it looks like VM are sharing email addresses deliberately or by accident with other companies.1.8KViews0likes3CommentsGDPR Breach
Over a week ago I noticed when I signed in to Ny Virgin Media App it welcomed me with a different name and said "the fun starts soon" as apparently I was waiting to be set up (I have been a customer since October 2022). On further investigation of the personal details on the account it had someone else's mobile phone number and postcode, although it is my email address. On phoning the absolutely woeful Virgin support I was told by thr initial handler that this was my email provider's issue and I should call them (I.e. Gmail!!) to resolve it. The handler clearly had no idea what GDPR was or seemed to care, it was only when I pushed that I got a supervisor. She half heartedly agreed there was an issue and she'd raise a ticket. It's plainly obvious when looking at my account number, and thr individual now showing in my apps account number that a typo has happened somewhere has they differ by one digit. However Virgin have done absolutely nothing about this, it's still showing me someone else's personal details, there's been no attempt to resolve it and my emails to the Data Protection Officer email have gone unanswered. I've raised a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office. The shocking lack of interest and care is horrifying. Virgin Media are beaking the law and not only couldn't care less, aren't bothered about actually resolving it. Can someone at Virgin please let me know how to escalate this?685Views0likes4CommentsBlueyonder email address hacked
Hi, my primary email address of username@blueyonder.co.uk was hacked not long after I received an extortion email a week ago telling me to pay up to avoid compromising photos of me being distributed to my accounts. Worryingly, the email included the genuine password for my email account. I've changed My Virgin Media password and the password for the client app I normally use to access my emails. I'm not sure if this change feeds through to my webmail password. The Virgin Media site says it doesn't but an agent says it does. My hacked email has been used to access my Etsy and Ebay accounts - I've arranged for these to be closed. I've also set up active forwarding on my username@blueyonder.co.uk account but some has used it to access my Shopify account. I've now closed it. So my email address is floating about on the internet ripe for misuse. Ideally I would like to delete my blueyonder email address but I understand I can only do this if I cancel all my Virgin Media services. Is there no way of replacing it with a virginmedia.com address? Also, how can I be sure the blueyonder.co.uk webmail address has been changed and so avoid it being hacked again? Many thanksSolved2.8KViews0likes4Comments
