In the garden of our existing house which has virgin fibre terminating on what will be the boundary wall between the two properties. Fibre goes to the brown box and coax into the house for the TV/broadband. I am told that the fibre should be able to support more than one connection so presumably that would be coax from the brown box (don't know what it's proper name is). As this is the last house on the road VM can't simply tap in to a toady box with an unused fibre) Have tried to contact Virgin by phone to confirm this is the case but end up going round in circles. What I also need to know is what cable(s) I need to run in the house. Bearing in mind we are building a highly sealed "Passiv" house this ideally needs to be done during the construction phase to limit the number of penetrations into the sealed/insulated parts of the house. (More problematical after completion). And I presume VM are not happy to use generic (even if perfectly good coax) not supplied by them. And in theory the electrical contractor could use suitable coax and flip the existing connection into the new house but clearly that would breach my VM contract terms and not a realistic consideration. Otherwise it would leave the new house without a high speed connection until Open Reach go live with Fibre to premises next year) Is there a number I can contact directly to discuss this and obtain the correct cabling? Andy Re: New build connection It's fibre right to the house before terminating into coax just outside the house wall in the brown box. The grey cabinet is 120m away ish. New build connection We've started our new build in the garden beside our house. We currently have Virgin fibre to our existing house and would like the same in our new one. (Whilst there is a BT cabinet right outside they are only offering fibre to cabinet & City Fibre are due at some point to fibre the village, Virgin are the only full fibre option. However we are the last house on the run from the grey box. Does that mean we can't have a fibre connection unless we get Virgin to move the existing connection into the new building? (That bit would be easy enough as the entry for the fibre is a couple of metres from the new house but clearly would impact our existing house) Andy Re: Modem mode not working hub5 Finally got it sorted. Followed the advice above and finally it worked. Not sure why I hit these problems as I have changed the hub and router before and used modem mode without issue. However I wonder if the Draytek 2865 is more sensitive to cabling issues which is why it seemed to work in router mode as I ended up removing all the ethernet cables from one of my network switches and found one which was taking down the internet connection when it was connected. yet to work out what it feeds! (It's an ad hock network with a couple of switches feeding extensions as well as 3 ubiquiti wireless access points that has evolved over 20 years) Thanks for your help Andy Modem mode not working hub5 Used the hub5 for past few months without issue and before that the hub3. Went away for a few days and lost access to my security cameras. Started to check things out and it seems the hub no longer works when in modem mode. I can set it to modem mode but when I plug the Ethernet cable into my Draytek router I lose connectivity to the router and likewise I can’t log on to the hub without doing a reset. In router mode it works fine but it’s not practical to use the limited facilities of the hub, given it lacks the ability to subscribe to things like DDNS services. I have an old router, which again becomes inaccessible when the hub 5 is plugged in in modem mode. Has there been a firmware update that has messed things up? Or is the device flaky? Re: What channels are on Mega TV I've just had a chat as I was out of contract. Currently on Maxit TV with Sky Sports & TNT (BT as was) Spoke to an advisor earlier & asked for the same channels/landline package which I think I am getting with an upgrade to a 1Gig connection. However tonight I received an email to the effect of: Your new package now includes: TV: Mega TV - TNT Sports - Additional TV Box Broadband: Volt Gig1 Broadband Phone: TV and Broadband Discount - Anytime chatter We've removed: TV: Maxit TV - Sky Entertainment & Cinema Ultra HD Broadband: Volt M600 Broadband Phone: Talk More Anytime Doe this mean they have taken off my Sky Sports & Movies or is it in the current Mega bundle? Andy Re: Netflix It is part of my VM package. I've now got it back working on my VM boxes. Found a rogue Fire TV amongst the devices via the Netflix app. Presumably this is the one the hacked Netflix account tried to register. Booted that off and logged in without issue. I will leave it a few days and reset the account email to my home one when I'm sure no further hacks or misuse of my email address is occuring. Netflix My Netflix account seems to have been hacked. Couldn't log in on my phone & when I got home I tried to login on my V6 but found a totally different email to mine. Contacted Netflix who talked me through resetting my Netflix account through the recovery page on Virgin. They advised to use a different email so set my work email and password. So far so good. Able to log in on my phone & PC. But when I try and connect to the Virgin Box it asks me to scan a QR code, when I do and follow the link, it asks me to update my household, wanting to update my Firestick (Tricky as the one I had it died a while ago). Presumably this refers to the one belonging to whoever hacked me. It then gets stuck at this point, doesn't ask me to update my other V6. On the myvirgin media the recovery page doesn't seem to work. Do I need to change my Netflix account email back to the original one? (the same as the one I use for my Virgin media account) Andy
