I currently have hub5 on hfc and modem loses works fine so what on earth made such a drastic change from a x model of the same number hub, to make matters more annoying vm isn't alone xgn-pos is being rolled out by many companies whom don't suffer the modem mode issue. I'm just glad being in a 1gps hfc area I don't expect it get xgs-pon before 2030 so least I can't see having to pay exit fees to mogw away unless vm address there many many problems, same with the TV I've heard areas how now have xgn-pos have also lost the TV service right? Existing customer activation fee, can I dispute a hasty agreement? I have a question, I only just finished a live chat via the my virgin media app with a support agent to try to resolve a bug in my hub 4 ive suffered through for a while but finally got round to resolving by explaing the issue then requesting a replacement upgrade to a hub 5. The side reason was to get the recommended hub 5 for use with the 1gig service replacing the hub 4 that was rushed out to give to early adopters. At first the agent wanted to send an engineer out to which I said why waste the money to send an engineer out for just a replacement hub then asked for it to be sent out as a self install which was agreed too. The self install and the hub 5 is on its way but I since been thinking, was I too hasty when I said yes to the activation fee of £35 (probably due to my elation at getting a working and suitable hub), granted I get why new customers pay the fee as its a completely new install and setup, but surely existing customers shouldn't need the fee if the only change is to be a simple mac address value change, (be nice if this too was self install via a web app, would no doubt save virgin media even more money too). Well if love to hear thoughts and experiences, and maybe if I'm lucky a response from a virgin media employee. Thanks Re: SH4 in modem mode responding to 2 ips 192.168.100.1 and 192.168.0.1? I've reported an issue now anyway as I've been getting dropouts / reboots every day around 2am now and it's been every single day too. Although from other posts it seems this isn't an isolated problem either, but we'll see what they say, even the my virgin media app is useless for status tests now as every test it runs it performs a SH reset which makes no difference as it repeats the reset prompt every time too? Again I hate to repeat myself lol but you can't say my SH4 is normal having both it's modes ip's active at the same time in either mode can you? As I say it has to be a fault or a firmware bug for this scenario to be happening as I say normal working in theory should be one ip for each mode router or modem mode. Do get what you mentioned regarding Ips though as that's how I resolved the issue originally adding an exception for the wan to SH4 by adding both ips and macs to get around the IPS feature that normally ip to mac pairs devices which is basically suspicious arp behaviour or ip to mac pairing conflict, normally I use the IPS feature which prevents ip to mac pairing miss matches on the same nic ports. Thanks for the feedback it's appreciated but I've now had to directly contact VM tech support. Re: SH4 in modem mode responding to 2 ips 192.168.100.1 and 192.168.0.1? Thanks for your replies I do appreciate them but I realise that the ips are going to be on the lan side but I'm sure this has to be a faulty SH4 as this scenario shouldn't happen, granted the 192.168.100.1 ip used for modem mode has its own mac address and again for the 192.168.0.1 ip which also has its own mac address but I've never seen on older model Super hubs respond to both local ips at the same time in modem mode? See my 3rs party firewall has before I made changes seen the 2 ips with there separate macs on the same wan port of the firewall as suspicious macs via arp tables or conflicts in its IPS module. Hence why I posted originally in the hopes someone from VM might see this post and assist with a super hub replacement? Like I mentioned ive had most of the prior models and modem mode was always on 192.168.100.1 only and router mode was always on 192.168.0.1 and there was never any crossover it was one ip and mac per mode. Hence my initial thought that this has to be a fault or a bug with the SH4 model only, I'd be interested to know if other SH4 users see the same thing both modes local ips active and responding at the same time in either mode it's actually in? It may be time to attempt at getting through to a helpful tech support agent via the vm app I suppose. Thanks I wanted to see if the below inform provides anything on your systems? I recently stumbled across this site https://bidb.uk/ but it gave some info for virgin media just down my road that I'm wondering what it is? Virgin MediaS Status: Granted 17/05/2024,00:00:00-21/05/2024,00:00:00 Reference: NK103DIS158737 I realise that this is works but would a vm employee be able to find out exactly what the work might be please, I'm praying it might be upgrade works and not just maintenance? Anyway if anyone can shed some light on this I'd be grateful. Re: need a replacement Super hub 5 to replace my SH4?? Wasn't the news although not on the official vm site that the xgn pon areas had just released a 2gig symmetrical plan? https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2024/02/virgin-media-uk-launch-2gbps-broadband-and-optional-symmetric-speeds.html Re: SH4 in modem mode responding to 2 ips 192.168.100.1 and 192.168.0.1? Sorry what my last message was to suggest was that the 2 ips even on the Same physical hub port are using separate mac addresses which is obviously yes but why would the sh4 still use the 192.168.0.1 ip I'm modem mode which also makes that additional mac address visable. Modem mode on past hubs were always 192.168.100.1 only. I'm just wondering if this is actually a firmware bug especially after reading that the original sh5's don't have a modem mode? Anyway my main point being why is this happening on the sh4 when didn't on previous models? For sure it must provide some kind of vunarability? need a replacement Super hub 5 to replace my SH4?? I am again having issues with my Super hub 4 and woudl like to request a SH5 replacement?? The android my virginmedia app can no longer diagnose the issues anymore and does a reset every time which is a long process. Also is there anyway to request a 2gig / 2gig sh5 connection on demand before I totally lose confidence in my 25 years of being a Virgin media customer and cancel to find symetrical alternatives So so annoying since being a customer of theres before there telewest takeover So so annoying since being a customer of theres before there telewest takeover that I still cant actually get symmetrical speeds same up and down?? Granted XGN-PON 2gig / 2gig is coming but im not holding my breath? I bet ill have to wait another 10 years at least?? Re: Virgin Media switches on residential 2Gbps broadband service I know they use docsis 3,1 for upstream and downstream but still the majority of channels are docsis 3, I just wonder why VM just cant replace all there docsis 3 channels up and down with docsis 3.1 so that these hew modems could be used as intended tith theoritical speeds on par as XGN-POS?? Id love to hear from a virgin engineer to explain why this was never done?? surely the cost would be a lot less than a full network upgrade right??
