TiVo to V6 upgrade

johnasimmons

Hello forum

My second box is a TiVo that I now want to upgrade to a V6 due to the imminent arrival of Sky Sports+ which I understand will not work on the TiVo box. What is the minimum internet speed required for the V6 as it needs a internet connection (which will be via a Pod)? Also, will the Sky Sports+ app be coming to the V6 as there are conflicting posts on here about if it will or you need a V360 for it...

kind regards

John

A few bits in here.

1: The Sky Sports HD multiscreen is currently exclusive to TV360, which is a completely different platform and fundamentally not TiVo. It is being developed for V6, but it won't be available imminently.

2: You're correct to assume the TiVo is a very outdated box now.

3: There's no defined minimum speed for a V6/360 'net connection, but most of the streaming apps can probably comfortably work with a 10Mb/s connection - that's what the TiVo had. The connection needs to be a VM one, and hardwired Ethernet is recommended.

The faster the better, & it needs to be a stable speed. Wired is definitely preferred (I use Powerline connectors myself), & if you can lock it to 5Ghz WiFi then do so, as it works far better. V360 is even more reliant on the hub connection than TiVO V6, as the second box does not contain a hard disk.

We are still waiting to see what functionality we get with Sky Sports+ on the V6. This is dependent on getting a working app. Also with the retention of TNT Sports in the balance due to an ongoing dispute, I think VM don’t want to dump the possibly of losing TNT, plus the loss of Sky Sports functionality on their still substantial V6 customer base occurring in the same month.

Thanks to both of you for your answers

I get 60mbs+ in the room via a Pod where the TiVo is so no problem there. Can I connect a ethernet cable from a Pod to the V6 box (it has a socket on the bottom of the Pod)?

If I upgrade my V6 to a 360 box will I still use my original V6 box with a new remote that Virgin Media send me and receive a 360 box without a HD to replace the elderly TiVo?

kind regards

John

Hello

I am the same as Daveg14 but I haven't received any email saying 'to enjoy the benefits of Sky Sports+ I would need a Box swap'...

kind regards

John

Please disregard this email as I just received the swap box email from Virgin Media
