"temporarily" unavailable for the past about 9 months. I've tried calling a few times with no success and I just can't bring myself to phone the god awful helpline. I had given up hope, but now need to get this resolved.
any suggestions?
when I test the network it shows an IP address and says successfully connected. it does say "port connection failed" but I gather this doesn't mean much?
I have tried reconnecting the internet, turning on and off etc

You're correct to believe the port configuration test is meaningless.
Are you able to use non-VoD streaming apps, such as iPlayer, ITV-X, C4, YouTube etc?
What do you mean by "reconnecting the internet"?
