Can’t fast forward on ITV X?

Thanks but no change - V6 box.

The Home screen did go off for a couple of seconds at the 2nd or 3rd press of Play so it certainly did something, but going into ITVX whilst Fast Forward and rewind did move the progress line back and fore pressing Play just froze the screen at where I had pressed FF.  Further presses of FF and rewind moved the progress line but the screen stayed with the same freeze frame as before.   Pause did nothing, only the down arrow did anything - going back to the ITVX main page.

That says: "If you’re a first-time user of ITVX, you must set up a new account. During the sign-up process, you may be offered an upgrade to ITVX to watch content without ads, but this is unnecessary if you have the Sky Ad Skipping TV package."

But as I said before where do I sign up?  I spent some time Googling and did find a registration page, but it said my application would be reviewed and after a couple of days it came back and said I wasn't eligible.

So have you (or anyone else) signed up?  If so where?

I went to www.itv.com/watch/user/register on another device and tried to register but it said I already was - I don't know how.  I asked for a password reset, did that, then signed in (with 'keep me signed in') and got the same screen as I have done from the start when going into ITVX on the TV.

On the TV I went into the app, down to Settings and selected that.  The next screen was mainly about parental controls and although there was another menu across the top there wasn't a sign-in option, only as here. 

Back to Home and started playing a program, ads came on, tried FF and the progress bar moved but the frozen frame of the add stayed on the screen when I pressed play or pause.  Then I randomly tried the left and right buttons on both parts of the remote, and the play and pause on the lower part, and suddenly the program proper started playing and I could FF and Rew through it.  However it was really clunky not having any idea where I was in the program until I pressed Play again, like iPlayer used to be on Tivo.

I came out of that, selected a different episode, play, ads came on, FF, the progress bar moved with the frozen frame of the ad showing, but this time pressing various buttons on both parts of the remote did nothing and all I could do was come out of it back to TV.  Maybe I didn't press the magic sequence this time, I'd love to know what it is!

Firstly I've not believed it was anything to do with signing in when I can access and play programs, that would be a really strange way of writing an app. Yes, there is another option off-screen in Settings - Sign Out and if I click that then as soon as I try to play a program it tells me to sign in, which is exactly what I'd expect.

The following relates to my box:

1.  When FFing through introductory ads only X2 is available.

2.  Play freezes the screen while FFing through the introductory ads, only left, right, pause and stop do anything.

3.  It will not start playing the program proper unless and until I have let it go all the way through the introductory ads at X2, sitting there watching a frozen frame and progress bar, which is almost irritating as having to sit through the ads. There are multiple ads with the progress bar starting from the left each time.

4.  After several bouts of that and having to find a different episode each time (once I have got into the program proper it resumes from where I left off) the introductory ads stopped (until this morning) so I was not able to learn any more about that part of the issue.  I've not looked for a 'from beginning' option yet.

5.  Speeds up to X120 are only available in the program proper, with no clue as to where I am apart from the progress bar until I press Play.

6. When I get to an ad break part-way through a program X2 and X6 FF options are available but that's all. There can be several ads, the progress bar starting from the left each time.

7. When it gets to the end of those ads, unlike after the introductory ads, it carries on FFing through the program! One has to watch for a change in the progress bar from moving across the screen to being full-width with breaks every fifteen minutes which shows the program has restarted, and press Play.

Does anyone actually use ITVX to FF through ads? It's almost useless and I'm beginning to have my doubts given the incorrect, incomplete and misleading information offered. For me the primary reason for getting this box was for recording six channels, if it had been for ITVX it would be going back and as I say this is my box.

Virgin tried a reload no change.  Engineer visited, did the same, no change.  He's agreed I'm getting what I say I'm getting but can't help, saying all I can hope is that there is a new release of the app that does something different.  He'd never come across it before, and neither had anyone on their closed engineers group.  Like I said, I suspect I'm the only one trying to use it!

It's worse than letting the ads play through, at least then you can do something else such as Sudoku or pick up a book keeping half an ear open for when the program restarts.  With ads on slow FF you have to keep looking at a frozen screen watching the ad progress bars one after the other, waiting for the program progress bar to appear and press Play, otherwise it **bleep** through that as well.

Incidentally the All4 catchup app doesn't FF at all.

Does ANYBODY use FF on ITVX?  I've not seen anyone admit to it yet. 

Yes also FF in ITVX, on V6 box with Maxit TV, and have identical issues.

Can you FF through the ads at a beginning of a program?  What do you see on screen?  What speeds are available?  What happens if you press Play while the ads are still showing?

Likewise what happens when you FF through embedded ads?  What do you see on screen?  What speeds are available?  What happens if you press Play while the ads are still showing?

There is no error message, the screen freezes when I start FFing although the progress bar is still moving on both ads and programs.  However that tends to be 'normal' on streamed content, although iPlayer (app) now has a series of stills scrolling across the bottom of the screen.

What is different between ads - initial at least - and program is that Play just seems to do the same as pause i.e. stop anything happening on the screen, and only FF, REW and Stop do anything.  From what I can recall Play does work in the program and embedded ads.

The biggest annoyance, which is why we don't really use it, is that FFing through the initial ads is limited to x2.  I think FFing through embedded ads is a bit faster but may be limited to x6 instead of x120 for the program.

I might have cracked it.

Set up an account ITVX using the same email and PW details as the Virgin account
Watch it via the ITVX app, NOT via Virgin catchup/search.
Can fast forward at up to x120 (although no indication of how far you are fast forwarding.)
