V6 TV box noises

Hi, looking for some help rather than go through the telephone diagnostics nightmare.

My TV V6 box,.which is very old, is making some very strange buzzing noises. It's been happening for several months and is sometimes quiet but normally loud enough to hear even when the telly is on. It also does this when the box is in stand by.

Over the last couple of days I've also noticed that, whilst the picture is still fine, it seems like it's lagging and when the menu/guide is on the screen it's less than crisp. Pixelated, even.

Any help as to what options are available to me would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

The buzzing noises could be indicative of a hard drive problem.

Can you take a photo of the pixellated menus and post it to this thread? Use the photo icon in the reply-box to upload a picture directly to the forum.

thanks for the reply. It does actually look better in the photo but you can see where there's diagonal lines on the letters that it isn't very crisp at all. It's a brand new telly, by the way and please don't judge me about what I'm watching. 😁

Ok, I've now got the football on and it's like I'm watching on an internet stream it's so jumpy.

I've gone into the room where the second box is and the picture is perfect.

You'd posted in the V6 forum, but your picture shows TV360 software which is totally different. You may have previously had a V6 but when you migrated to TV360 service, the box stopped being a V6. That refers to the TiVo software which yours no longer runs.

I've moved your post to the TV360 section, others who use TV360 are better placed to advise. In the meantime, what's the make & model of the affected TV?

Have you eliminated the HDMI lead a cause, by swapping it between ports on the TV, and also between the 2 boxes?

Hi @mardel1

That screenshot looks like you have a TV360 box - probably migrated from the V6 platform.

Have you tried swapping the boxes around to see if the fault follows the box?

It may just be a case of checking and tightening the wiring/connections to correct the picture.

The strange buzzing noise may be the boxes fan or hard drive.  Do you have any problems with recordings on that box? Also what happens if yuo pause a program and then play it back?

Sorry, didn't realise about the migrated software.

No issues with the leads. TV is a Samsung OE65QN90AT

no problem with recordings. Switched Hdmi inputs no change. I've added another picture as the recordings menu is quite pixelated.

TV apps pictures are perfect.

I'll swap the boxes when to the football finishes.

Hi there @mardel1

Thank you so much for your post and welcome to the community forums, it's great to have you here.

I am so sorry that you have faced this issue with your Set Top Box! Can I ask if the picture resolution is set to automatic in the settings menu?

Hi, I've no idea.

However the picture is a relatively new thing. It's the loud buzzing noise from the box that's the main problem. It's been doing it for months. It's a box that we've had since we first subscribed to Virgin media 5-6 years ago.
