TV quality blurry

We had Virgin telly activated 16 days ago.  The quality is very unclear so I booked an engineer visit, fully expecting it to be resolved.  He managed to improve some of the channels, but said that any non-HD channels will stay blurry.  Based on this I called Virgin asking to cancel the TV service, as that is not good enough.  They are refusing because we should have cancelled within 14 days.  I would have, if I could have got an engineer earlier in the week, but now I'm stuck!

Any advice, on what I can do to get this cancelled or clearer telly would be appreciated if anyone has been through this before.

You'd posted in the V6 section of this forum, but new TV service is now provided by TV360. I've moved your post to the TV360 section, where users familiar with it, are better placed to advise.

In the meantime, can you perhaps post a photo of the picture that you describe as blurry, that may help. It's true to say that upscaling SD pictures on anything bigger than a 32inch screen, is not going to yield great results - that's the nature of trying to make a low-resolution source picture, high-resolution.

You could try setting the 360's video resolution to 1080 and see if your TV does a better job at upscaling to 4K.

What size screen do you have.

Hi @Welkel thanks for your post although we're sorry to hear of your concerns.

If you have passed your 14-day right to cancel period then you would be subject to early disconnection fees, but regarding the quality on the TV specifically the SD channels, sadly you are likely to not get a much clearer picture on them as @japitts has explained, it is just not technically possible.

If you can confirm answers to the questions that has been asked here then we'll do our best to support further.

Many thanks

Thanks for your help.  We've had 2 Virgin engineers out who made changes to the resolution.  Both said the same thing:  "Non-HD channels are blurry".  One even connected to his own screen to confirm that it's not our TV that's the issue, but is Virgin.  Despite that, Virgin won't cancel our contract or give us free HD sports channels.  If I knew that non-HD channels were blurry, I would never have entered into an 18th contract which I now can't leave, and I can't watch sport in decent quality, despite all that money.

Hi Welkel,

We can see you've been in touch with the team about this since posting. If you do still need help with anything please let us know.
