I have ben sent a new 360 remote to use with my existing TiVo box but I cannot see how to record programmes manually can someone help with this?

The short version is this can't be done. The longer version...
That "new remote" you've received is actually part of a complete change of TV box software. You no longer have a TiVo or a V6, you now have a TV360 box. TiVo & V6 boxes run TiVo-software, which has a manual recording function. https://www.virginmedia.com/care/tv-fault/which-tv-box
TV360 boxes run Horizon software and don't have this function. You can only set recordings from your TV guide.
