TiVo freezing then TV freezing

Hi I hope someone can help. Our TiVo box intermittently freezes on forwarding on a recording and when you change to TV that is also frozen. I reboot the box and try to watch the same recording and it continues to freeze each time I try to forward or rewind. It seems to take a lot longer to start up after reboot and rather than a black screen it sometimes has blocks of green at the top.

As I said this is intermittent but very annoying I've had to reboot 4 times tonight. The box is quite old now about 8 years old and goes off regularly for no reason and it has to be rebooted. 

Is this just a case of it's had a lot of use and needs replacing is the recording bit corrupted one of the other things it does is record pixelated ???

Id appreciate any help with this thanks

The TiVo box is extremely elderly by current standards, it probably has now seen better days.

Faulty TiVo's are now replaced with V6, which run the same software but on a much newer and quicker box.
