Can I connect my Tivo to a different wifi network?

We're in the process of moving away from Virgin, and now have a Giganet routers and wifi, replacing the virgin router.

The Tivo box isn't downloading program information using the Giganet wifi. I've got it connected to the new wifi network, but the Tivo box says that it can't connect to the Virgin servers.

Does the Tivo box only work with wifi supplied from a Virgin router? Does the server connection external IP address or something?

Don't seem to be able to edit my original message.

An update - when trying to connect, the Tivo box fails with a "Failed while negotiating" message.

The TiVo must be connected to the VM broadband network via its coax and either an Ethernet cable or WiFi. Once you cancel VM the TiVo will cease to work.

You need a current VM broadband connection to watch TV using any of VM's TV set top boxes. They won't work with any other provider.

Both TiVO V6 & Horizon V360 work on an internal network that cannot be seen by hubs used by any other ISP. Your boxes connect to & are registered with a server at your own regional VM headend, so even connecting your box to VMs network in another part of the country would require changes to your VM account.

Although just to add to the previous responses, the legacy TiVo box doesn't use WiFi but has its own separate co-ax connection to VM's core network.

The newer V6 box, which runs TiVo software, operates as per above.
