I had the same situation- check first then take it to a recycling centre (or your local charity shop.

Seriously I would not dispose of any VM Kit.  

VM have a very nasty habit of months later demanding kit be returned and charging a fee if you are unable to comply.

I would not take it to a charity shop, lots do not accept electrical equipment.
