Im on the new xgs pon with virgin atream can i add a 2nd box and if so how much is it and can i add the additional box online .

You cannot order extra boxes on-line
You can get up to 6 extra Flex boxes, they are £10 a month extra to your Stream box also you have to subscribe to Mega TV,
I have the VM Stream box, love it you can FFW through adverts, you have a Watchlist that’s where all your programs go to watch
the problem comes when you want to order extra boxes, don’t use WhatsApp, they haven’t got a clue, not even aware you can have extra Flex boxes (See my post, Nighmare Ordering extra Flex boxes) the only way you can order an extra box is ring 0345 454 1111, Option 4 then Option 4 again, ask for the CS staff that deal with Hub 5x, they’ll be able to order one for you, be prepared for a long phone call, took me at least 2 hours, when I rang they were struggling to add my new deal, told when the new box is connected it sends a signal to VM & that will activate my new deal, we’ll see,
2nd box arrives tomorrow.

I just got off a call with the VM customer services team and they have told me that I can't have more than 1 stream box - point blank can't be done. I went around 3 or 4 different teams and gave up. I'm close to moving to Sky... what's so hard about training a team on new products before they are released.

I helped a customer with this out the other day, currently we are unable to add them however it does let you when you try to do this from your online account.

I have Virgin Stream (or Flex) and have a second box. I'm not surprised you are having difficulty in getting one yourself as my experience was a dreadful one. I would advise you to do as Stephen93 suggests and ring them to make your request. One thing I will say is that they were very quick to send the box out - 24 hours. Good luck and I would be interested to hear how you get on.
