What Hub do you have?
Your device may be connecting to the 2.4Ghz band due to signal strength, meaning you may need a pod (booster) from VM.
They are free on Gig1.

Can you try forcing the Wi-Fi card to 5Ghz?
Another option is to split the bands in the Hub settings, so you have two SSIDs.
