Wifi speed

Just upgrade to 500 speed from 350 but when I do a speed test I am getting roughly the same on WiFi (280/290) as before. At the router I am getting 550, any ideas on how to improve the WiFi speeds.

  • WiFi, is that 2.4ghz or 5ghz? For 2.4 that's really good and for WiFi 5 ac (assuming not WiFi ax hub5 and compatible WiFi 6 ax client) that is still on par. It depends how many streams your 5ghz device supports, some are only 1 stream like a lot of even recent mid range android phones. Also, the WiFi hubs from VM aren't exactly strong signal with optimal beacon sizes and it depends if you have nearby access points on same frequency as yours and strong enough to cause errors or collisions.

Maybe tell us a bit more about WiFi band you tested in, he device and whether you have used a WiFi scanning app to see what the optimal frequency is in your area. The router is probably on automatic for channel unless you fixed it at a specific channel.

By default, VMs hubs will use 2.4ghz and 5ghz if device supports 5ghz and will switch to lower bandwidth 2.4ghz if device is deemed too far away for strong signal or in a reception pocket where signal too low to get benefit of 5ghz. Your 2.4ghz may also be affected by other properties using a limited set of channels too, though VM normally have that as automatic channel selection.

  • Hi Alext1972 thanks for your post although we're sorry to hear of the concerns you've raised here.

We'd firstly advise using a speed test via ethernet cable, as this is going to get you the speeds directly from your Hub - we do not guarantee WiFi speeds as the speeds with WiFi will be your devices optimum speeds rather than from the Hub itself, factoring in points raised by unisoft too.

If you can't connect by ethernet, at least use the SamKnows speed test as this will show you both the Hub speeds and your device speeds.

We hope this helps and if you need any more support please let us know.

    Many thanks
