Honestly, if you believe an email from a business from a @gmail.com account is not a scam you need to power off your device and burn it.

Yes it might sound silly but being as I now have to access my Virgin Media online account following a security breach on Virgin Media emails, I now have to sign in using a gmail email address, so not beyond the realms of possibility that Virgin Media may use a gmail. Better to be safe than sorry!!!!

Sorry, but what security breech? You have evidence of this? Have you reported it to the ICO?

Hi BMW53,
Thanks for taking the time to contact us via the Community. It's lovely having you on board with us in the Forums. ⭐
We're sorry to hear you received this but can confirm the email was reported and added to our phishing list on the thread posted above.
Just so you know, you need to use a third party email due to new multifactor authentication. This will not change any of our email addresses though and these will still come from official Virgin Media email addresses.
If you have any further concerns, please let us know.
Thanks,
