I received an email from email@em.virginmedia.com saying I have an old hub and they will send a new one. Is this genuine?

It's very possible if you have either the hub1, hub2, or the hub2ac.
They are being upgraded prior to VM switching their telephony service to digital voice as those older hubs aren't compatable with telephony services.
