Virgin Media 360 broadband move

Neilvr
Tuning in

Hi,

I hope you can help, I am looking to move my broadband router from downstair into one of the upstairs bedrooms as I have new TPLink wifi access points.

I have an existing coax cable that runs on the outside of the house and I have managed to connect the router with a a coax extension. All seems to be working except I have noticed my speeds are slightly down and I can see on the router page that some of the downstream channels are not locked.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get this resolved?

Thanks

Neil

There is a fault with the outside cable, or your own extension, or both.

This is why you should not make changes like this. You may also be causing problems for neighbours connected to the same cabinet.

Call CS and book a technician visit who will put this right for just £25.

Two possibilities, maybe both:

1 ) Not using triple shielded coaxial, which is essential for cable services as cable meant for TV aerials & satellite will allow noise to leak onto the local network. If this gets as far as the cabinet amplifier all your neighbours will also suffer technical issues as a result.

2) Changing the length of cable also changes the signal level balance. This can only be addressed by opening the street cabinet to make the necessary adjustments to your drop line.

It's a classic example of why you shouldn't modify Virginmedia connections.

If the neighbours have to call out a technician due to your tampering, you could be charged for their attendance.

Hey Neilvr,

Welcome to the community and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums. I’m sorry to hear of the issues that you’re having with your connection. I would be happy to take a further look into this for you but there would be a call out charge of £25 to resolve the issues but first I would need to confirm a few details via private message, please look out for my message and we can get started.
Kind Regards,
