Switching to freeview

Hello,

I’ve recently moved into a flat where I think the previous tenant had Virgin broadband and TV installed. There’s a small box which seems to split the broadband and TV, and I’m using the broadband cable to connect to the internet as I am with Virgin. However, I don’t have Virgin TV and just want to use standard Freeview channels from the aerial. I’ve tried plugging the cable from the “TV” part of the splitter into the TV but not had any luck, 0 channels found. I suspected I might need to use a different coax cable, but I can’t seem to remove the current one from the splitter.

Any tips would be much appreciated!

You can’t use the VM connection for Freeview.  You need to use a standard TV aerial.  If the signal is good you may get away with an internal aerial, if not you will need one on the roof which may be connected to your flat already?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I think there is an aerial already so I will try this. Assuming there is, should it work if I remove the Virgin cable and use a standard coax cable in the part of the splitter that says “TV”?

The aerial cable will need to go directly to the aerial socket on the TV.

The VM cable has nothing to do with Freeview, so you need a separate cable from a standard TV aerial directly to your TV, as noted by jpeg1.  If you are not taking VM TV, you can actually remove the splitter altogether as you only need the one cable to the Hub.
