Student looking to get WiFi for next year, how do I get the cheapest price ?

So I’m in a house share with 5 other friends and I said I would sort the wifi. I’ve looked and virgin do the wifi for the area and also do a rolling month contract ( which is best as we will be there 10 months not 12 ) but prices seem decently high. For M500 it’s £49 a month. Is there a way to get this down ? I only know of getting cheaper wifi after not renewing your contract and getting called with a cheaper price.

Student pricing seems to be remarkably consistent (at the figures you mention) across many comparison/student sites.

Some seem to offer vouchers etc. alongside the VM package but these often fail to materialise based on many topics on here.

As a student on a short term contract you are not a long term customer prospect for VM so VM wants the money out of you in the short time it has your custom.

You might possibly get a better offer if you find a VM field sales rep skulking around on campus but beware of any interactions with these characters and what they promise as they are a regular source of complaint on the forum (when the deals they are claiming to offer fail to turn into a reality). If you do deal with a VM field sales person, get everything they are offering in writing from them before you part company with them and/or hand over any bank info.

Also, if you are taking out the contract in your name, it will be you (personally) who is responsible for paying the bill and closing down the account when it is no longer needed. VM requires 30 days notice to close an account when you move on.

Hi kaynebr1

I'm not sure if this is possible but it's worth asking about.

Do you, or any of other house share friends have an O2 monthly tarif sim?

If so check with Sales to see if you can get the M350 fibre /virginmedia.com/broadband/student  deal priced at £36.99 a month (admittedly still a12 month contract) and have the speed  Volted (boosted) for free to M500 due to having the O2 sim.

The Legal Stuff -  Sub Section Offers then Sub Section Volt Benefits** on the above linked page makes no mention of Students not being able to take advantage of the Volt benefits (it only states Essential Broadband customers are excluded)

**Volt benefits: Volt benefits available if you have or sign up to both an eligible Virgin Media broadband service and an eligible O2 Pay Monthly tariff. Excludes Essential broadband customers from 10 November 2022
