Removal of virgin box

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello,

I have called virgin 6 times since April and have been told someone will ring me back.

I have moved in to a new home, the virgin box outside the house is hanging off. I have a child around and need this box removed.

I am not a virgin customer, and have had no tv in my home since April because the terrestrial tv outlet has been replaced by a virgin white box.

I have tried freeview boxes and failed miserably.

I just want to watch standard tv with my child.

Could you advise me on these issues please?

The "ideal" scenario would be to terminate the "out of ground" cable with a 75 Ohm cap and remove everything else.  That way, VM can reconnect at another time, and the house will not be marked as unserviceable.?

Thanks for your post on our Community Forums, and a very warm welcome to you @Anonymous.

I'm sorry to say that we would have to advise that our team would not seek to remove former equipment from the property and 'accepted solution' post by @jpeg1, is the correct information to combat this matter.

Thanks,

On the plus side this is really a good outcome. David is a VM employee, further more, he is employed in a position wherein a ‘reasonable person’ might well conclude that his posts reflect the official VM stance on this.

Now the post from ‘jpeg1’ and cited in the aforementioned message, specifically advocates, simply cutting the cable away, removing the box, and, presumably, disposing of it as you see fit, a convenient skip would work well here!

So there we have it, for anyone in a similar position, VM’s official and legal stance is to take a pair of wire cutters to the cable, a screwdriver to the box and dump as you see fit!

I do fear that David is likely to be severely spoken to by his bosses.

Why should David be spoken to? He's only given helpful advice to put right the Company's mistake. Perhaps they would rather not admit this publicly, but he has done the decent thing. Good for David.

I completely agree with you. How is this a solution?

I am so fed up with this entire situation, I’m a single parent, I work full time and I’m struggling as it is I don’t want to pay for virgin and feel pressured in to getting it because I’ve been lumbered with this stupid box. And the only way I’ll qualify for support is by being a customer.
I just want to watch normal terrestrial tv!
I have already said I am happy to pay a fee I just want the bloody thing gone.

Just cut the bloody wires, chuck the box in the bin and get an aerial installer to repair the aerial cable. Job done!

Honestly it is a good solution, because we now have it in writing from an official VM representative that they (VM) simply, aren’t going to do anything about this and the onus is on you. But if you were to pop outside, cut the cables away, unscrew the box from the wall and dump the lot, then you can cite the above as being official permission!

If you don’t mind me asking, how old is your child? I’d bet they would love a bit of parent and child time, armed with some cutters (under supervision obviously, and sharp scissors would work) and a toy screwdriver to help mummy/daddy (sorry, I can’t definitively tell from your username, and I don’t want to assume) remove the ‘nasty thing’!

Incidentally, there is absolutely zero danger from doing this. Technically the connection might be ‘live’, but it’s not like a mains electricity cable, the voltages and power in them is so minuscule that anyone could stick the end in their mouth and maybe feel a slight tickling sensation.

I’m going to do this tomorrow morning, thank you.

Hi Adduxi

Thanks for the reply. Adding a 75 ohm cap sounds the best solution. Do you know if it's a bnc cap.

Thanks
