Moving to a Virgin Media house - TV question

I'm moving house to a place with no TV aerial and the occupants are taking the Virgin Media router and the TV box with them. I'm not fussed about TV subscriptions but I'd like to know if you can use another TV box, or buy a second hand Virgin Media box and use the cable connection to watch Freeview? Anyone tried this or know if this will/won't work?

Hello vindegosh

Thanks for popping on here and asking this question.

Sad to say the answer is no.

Basically the connection we have is decoded by one of our set top boxes into TV channels.

If you were to buy a second hand box, that would still not work as it needs to be assigned to an active account.

If you are on a budget we do have Stream boxes that require a broad band connection with us.

You can have a look here if you like.

Finally, we wish you all the best with your move.

Unfortunately Virgin Media encrypts even Free To Air Channels on their cable lines. You need to have a paid VM subscription to watch Free-To-Air content.

If any of the previous occupants had Sky, you can watch Free-To-Air channels no problem through the Sky dish. Either with a FreeSat reciever or even a basic unbranded DVB-S reciever.
