Just switching over to another provider and put in current landline number (note I don't actually use a landline, phone is in a drawer somewhere). However it's telling me it can't complete the request. Unsure if issue is with landline or current provider (VM) or what. I'm not fussed about keeping the number and can change it but wondering what the issue is There's a number I can call but thought I'd ask here first. Thanks

Number porting does appear to still be a murky business & worse VM are notorious for taking months to process number porting requests during which time you will still be paying for the VM bundle - just to keep that old unloved number available.
If you really do not care about the old VM land line number, I would opt for a new phone number to keep the installation of the new services as simple as possible for the next provider.

I ported the phone number to an independent VOIP provider, during the 30 days notice period. No problem at all.
