Had my Virgin Media install yesterday, all is well, but my old supplier (TalkTalk) kit is still active.

Hello, I had my Virgin fibre install moved a week earlier as they said they had a free appointment, so they came last night to do it (about 6.45pm!)

But today the previous suppliers fibre box (TalkTalk via Openreach) is still active, in tandem with the new one.  Does anyone know how long it takes for the old openreach fibre to be switched off?

When I signed up with Virgin I ticked the box to get them to deal with notifying TalkTalk and have had emails from TalkTalk saying "sorry you are leaving" but the box is still active today.
Does it take a few days to clear, or has something gone wrong?

I don't want to be charged extra from TalkTalk for their service that I'm no longer using, but I don't really want to ring them up about it if I can help it as I'm sure I will get the hard sell about all the "wonderful" offers they have for me.

I've just joined VM from TT.

Virgin used the "One Touch Switch" and TT were informed of the changeover date of 11th December.

I found TT had that date as I called regarding potential retention offers.

VM brought everything forward and I went live this morning, 26th November.

I check my TT account and it is now showing a provisional disconnection date of 29th November.

Suggest you log in to your TT account and see what it says.

Ok I'll have another look. I can't find a bit that mentions a disconnection date though.

I did have an email from Talktalk saying my last day would be 14th November but that was before virgin media were coming to install so I don't know why they had that date in their system

When you say 'still active' how do you know?

Because the white light is still showing on the TalkTalk router (which is connected to the Openreach modem, which is also lit up) and when I connect directly to the TalkTalk router's wifi I still get internet on it.

@RetiredATCO - where in the TalkTalk account does it show disconnection date? Can't see it anywhere.

The One Touch Switch must have been initiated because the day I signed up for Virgin I received a "sorry you are leaving us, your last day will be 14th November" from TT, which wasn't accurate as we werent even getting installed on Virgin until 2nd December at that stage! followed by a couple of missed calls from their retentions department.  And today I got another "sorry you are leaving us" but only telling me about their offers to tempt me to stay, nothing to say "this is your leaving date".   I assume with the newish OTS system it's up to Virgin to arrange the switch date and to keep TT informed. I'm worried if I ring them directly they will ask me to give 30 days notice or something, whereas I think if Virgin do it then that 30 days is waived?

VM first installation date 11/12, moved to 4/12 then to 26/11 when I actually went live.

TT had 11/12 when I called them and my account now shows 29/11 as provisional date.

I am relinquishing the landline number, it is still active at 0530 on 27/11, router has been removed so cannot check broadband.

Spoke to talktalk online and apparently it should be off by the end of the day and then they will send me the kit return bag.  Maybe there is a couple of days overlap to allow for any issues.  Better than when I first signed up to TalkTalk and we were left without internet for weeks due to all sorts of system errors - the compensation ended up paying for our internet for a full 18 months! 😄
