So I got Virgin 1gig service installed yesterday, all working great
On a wifi test with my phone I got 862mbps down and 96.5mpbs up, this was right next to the router.
When i used my phone again next to my pc which is only 4-5metres away from router with a door inbetween I get 563mpbs down and 94mbps up, this not too much of an issue.
It's when I use wifi on my pc right next to last test i mentioned on my phone that my pc only gets 265mpbs.
Why so much difference between a phone and pc on wifi in terms of speed in same location?

What Wi-Fi card does the PC have?
Which HUB do you have?
There are 10's of standards which connect at different speeds.
Some examples:
And that's just the theoretical speed you'll see.

You cannot compare devices like this. The contain different chipsets, have different aerials and number of aerials, could be even different bands. It’s like comparing oranges to apples. If you want to find out where they are different you need to look at the technical specs of both. Even the same model of a phone may have a different chicpset and different characteristics.

My PC is using a TP Link AC1300 Dual Band USB Adapter says up to 400Mbps at 2.4Ghz and 867Mpbs at 5Ghz

If you access the HUB on 192.168.1.1, log in, then select the 'Connected Devices' section it will show the connection speed of each device, including the band they are connected to:
Is the USB adapter plugged into a USB 3.0 port?

Yes in a USB 3.0 Port, the PC is using 2.4 Ghz from the adapter, my phone is using the 5ghz one.

That's your answer. The 5GHz band supports faster connections.

is there a way I can use 5ghz on my pc for faster connection?
This is what samknows reports.

You'll need to check its WiFi settings.
