Cable my area

Hello,

I have lived in an area that does not have any VM cable laid with in it and have trying to get it done for the past 6 years as there is cable in the area next to mine which roughly a mile away. So, it should be easy to take the cables from roughly a mile away and connect my whole village.

Who do I need to contact to get someone out from VM to at least have a look at the possibility of cabling up my village? Conact number or email?

I know quite a few of my neighbours are getting tired of the slow speeds through their BT phone line and even worse deals and would love the option of having VM.

It is not as simple as it might sound. 95% of VMs network is a type called HFC, which is now around 40 years old. It was built by many cable companies & was horrendously expensive, resulting in many either going bust or merging. As a result any further expansion of this type of network is unlikely to happen. VM is now going into building a new type of network (XGS-PON), both adding new areas & converting existing ones, but it is a mammoth task that will take many years. In short, most small villages will be well down the list for any expansion right now, so don’t get your hopes up too much.

VM is not expanding its network, but nexfibre is building its network and some of it is close to VM's. If this happens, nextfibre's ISP partner - VM - will provide service. Your other option is probably to hope that Openreach upgrades your area with fibre.

Hi Sparky1892,

Thanks for your post and welcome to our community.

I'm sorry to hear your area isn't currently able to get our service.

I'll send you a private message now to get some more information from you.

I can then contact the relevant team to see if there's any plans to cable that area :).

Please look out for the envelope in the top right of the page and pop back to me when you can.
