I have just had a person knock on my door from city fibre asking who is my provider then saying I need a new router and a box fitted outside because virgin has been taken over by them and my equipment needs to be changed. I am really not sure if he was being honest with me. He wanted to make an appointment for installation and I told him no he got a bit rude and said ‘ all I am trying to do is save you money and virgin won’t exist next year because of the take over.’ My husband recently passed away and I don’t understand very much about technology and worry I will be scammed. I have only just signed into an 18 month contract with virgin as I had to switch the account from my husband into my name. Am I right to be cautious? and is he being truthful. He said he is coming back tomorrow.

A couple of days ago VM was being taken over by BRSK. I can't keep up https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Tech-Chatter/BRSK-Doorstep-Rep-informed-me-Virgin-are-quot-Shut...

It sounds a bit scammy to me to be honest and a rouse to get you to switch internet providers. I am glad you did not do anything rash. If he comes back just shut the door on him or do not answer the door at all. If you do have to answer the door politely ask him for his card and then get rid of him. Phone City Fibre up and complain about their sales man (unless you have his details already that is from the first visit). I have had BRSK salesmen coming round as they had just installed in our area.. believe me I have asked some unbelivelbly stupid questions and they just lie every time to get people to buy.

Salesmen will say anything to get you to sign up for their product. One sure fire way I have found to get rid of them is to get my phone out, put it to record the conversation, then ask the salesman to repeat his spiel. They soon give up and go away.

Total rubbish!
Last year VM were actually looking at taking over City Fibre.
In the end they partnered with Nexfibre in order to expand their network beyond their existing cable infrastructure.
