Ethernet help

I wonder if someone more tech savvy could help or advise.

I’m a new subscriber to VM (broadband) I have a fibre connection and I’m using the hub 5x. Works great over WiFi. Whenever I connect a device via Ethernet individually or through a switch it kills the “internet” connection to laptops and pc on the network. The Pc says it’s connected but with no internet connection. As soon as I move ther Ethernet cable connection reverts back to normal.

I have contacted virgin and they have replaced the box but the issue still occurs.

Is it a specific device connected via ethernet that kills the internet connection for other devices? Or any device connected via ethernet?

I do not work for VM. Services: 2 x HD TV (+ Sky Sports, TNT sport), x2 Tivo boxes (WiFi) Hub5 1gb, Talk Weekend Phone on IP.

So are you using a switch or the Hub 5 ports?  If the Hub has been replaced it’s unlikely to be the Hub? Have you reset all the network gear since getting the new Hub 5x? Are there any old static IP’s involved? Also note the Hub 5x has issues with the 2.5Gb port and EEE power control. Try the 1Gb ports only in the meantime.
