Engineer coming today but confused about Pre-installation.

So I’ve been with Virgin for Broadband, only, for a couple years. However this was in my ex partners name and we split up recently but my wi-fi is currently still connected as it runs out at the end of this month. So I have now set it up again as a new contract so need a new router and what not. I was informed I couldn’t  just be sent the router to set up myself but needed an engineer to install. On my virgin app it says pre-installation works need doing as I haven’t had Virgin before when I currently have it. It’s gives a little timeline on my app that pre-installation works should have been done yesterday but this hasn’t been ticked. I still don’t understand why they would need doing and not even sure if the engineer would be coming today. Can anyone help with this?

You say your previous partners contract runs until the end of the month. Are you sure they have given 30 days notice? It sounds to me that they are sending a technician to install a second connection. I may be wrong, but what you have described fits that bill.
