Cable Modem Configuration ( Compatible 3rd Party )

Hello, please provide me with the configuration details to use my own cable modem outside of identifying/authorisation setup.

I have verified that it is compatible with the Virgin Media infrastructure (it is the same modem as the previous hub) and wish to have the relevant configuration details to ensure that it can connect.

You cannot use your own cable modem with a VM connection. There are no logon/password parameters with a VM hub, your circuit is verified by the MAC address of the hub.

You cannot do that. The Hub has to be fitted and activated by VM staff.

Granted ... and I'm working from modem mode, cheers.

Also, thanks, all.

To add: The firmware of the modem also identifies it, so even if the modem part may be from the same vendor (MAC address), it wouldn't say "I'm a HUB from VM".

Just to add to all the happy stuff even if you were bringing your own cable modem and this were okay when you hook it up VM would control it. They'd send firmware and configuration at which point you'd be locked out with nothing configurable by the customer.

If a combined modem and router gateway they'd control the modem with the router GUI probably still reachable. No-one gets to manage their own cable modem even where they are allowed to bring their own hardware.

Amusingly the 5x is also the only one that may be replaced with relatively minimal work.

If you want to use your own modem/router you'll need to look elsewhere than Virginmedia.  On my new EE connection, my Draytek router goes straight to the ONT. No ISP box needed.
