X partner left without closing his virgin media account. Can I get my own account?

Virgin media was and actually still currently is only in my X partners name. He left the family home over a year ago and Iv been paying the bill each month since. The package is costing me £133 a month minimum payment just to stay online. however me and daughter only need a basic package, plus I’m classed as vulnerable on benefits so might be eligible for the package virgin media have. I can’t afford to keep paying his account and the services have just been restricted once again, meaning I’m going to have to try find the minimum payment today somehow so my daughter can do homework online
PLEASE can someone help. 
Can i cancel his contract and get my own somehow?  Iv looked online and tried the online chat but its not letting me.

I am so sorry that you have faced this issue with your service and thank you again for posting. Our teams should be able to arrange a gone away for the account if the named account holder is no longer at the property, to do this you would just need to call our sales team on 0800 183 1234 and they will explain the process for you.
