Hard credit check

I was looking at getting virgin broadband however have had to cancel it before installation. I noticed on my clearscore that a hard credit search was done and my points have dropped by 76. I was not made aware that the hard search would occur.  In fact the advisor mentioned a soft credit check. I am in the process of applying for a mortgage and I am really concerned that this would affect my eligibility. Can this hard check be removed?

For what it's worth, there's not really any such thing as a "credit score". You have a statutory credit file which records your financial history, and individual lenders use their own internal scoring against that. Some CRA's (Clearscore is certainly one) then also sell you a meaningless "credit score" which is largely meaningless except as an indicator that something may be awry in the underlying data.

There have been previous threads on the subject of VM's searches and whether they are "hard" or "soft" - take a read through the following...
