Contract change after account name change

Last week I rang VM to change the account name from my late husband's to mine. There were no other changes. I was told that as the address hasn't changed, VM simply continue the existing contract, but under my name. This contract, £68 with discounts, ends 13th March. However, the account number WAS changed. Today, I received a paper contract in the post for me to sign and return - £111.99 apparently from 23rd January ! I have struggled to pay the monthly £68, so I shall leave VM before 13th March, giving 30 days' notice as required.
