Some phone numbers not recognised

Bit of an odd one here.  I have tried to telephone out on my land line various times to numbers, Local Council, NHS numbers etc, but I get the message to say "this number is not recognised, check and try again"

Try again but still no joy, I call on my O2 mobile and works OK, I get through OK. 

Any idea why this is happening?

Try dialing the (area code) as well as the local number just as you would on a mobile.

Daft phones, I just tried it now, from both landlines and all working fine. Technology!
