virgin.net cancellation without notice

As with a lot of others, last Thursday my email got turned off without notice. I have been in contact with them and all i got back was that they can assure me that i had received an email 30 days previously but they would not prove it. All I am after is list of my contacts for a few hours. I would happily sign up to virgin media, but all of there services are unavailable in my area. As you can imagine I have lost 100's of contacts, sign inns etc. I joined virgin 19 years ago as a pay as you go  internet provider.

Any help would be gratefully received

VM seems to be taking a hard line against granting temporary access to legacy mailboxes once they have been closed.

Some customers have been getting the 30 day notice, others are reporting no notice given which is unfair on the part of VM, IMO. This user regained temporary access for a data rescue mission as described below

https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/virgin-net-email-swindle-Tell-BBC-Rip-Off-Britain/m-p/558...

No guarantees you will have similar luck as VM is so inconsistent in its responses but, if you are now locked out altogether, it is worth a try.

I would recommend speaking to the ICO in any event. The more people who report the issue to ICO, the more likely it is it will register on the ICO radar as to what VM is doing.

The rights and wrongs of the mailbox closures have been discussed on here at length but, IMHO, it is not acceptable for VM to close your 19 year old mailbox with no warning, given how important an email address has become in daily life today.

Best of luck in resolving.

Joining this topic as my historical email account of over 20 years was deleted a few days ago. I did not see the 30 days notice and am now at a loss on how to back up my old account.

Is there an option to have access again for a few days to allow me to back up?  Tried all the new email and password options but nothing. Are VM able to Support ? Happy to write to the Information Commission Office (ICO) and request a Data Request as legally I am allowed access to "my" data.

In addition to the ICO/DPO route above, another interesting an unusual approach is reported here

https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/EMAIL-ACCOUNT-CLOSURE-RESOLUTION-virgin-net/td-p/5589588

though not clear if this regained access to backup data. I imagine for some, access to the data may be more important than compo.

By all means write to the ICO. But if the data has already been deleted there is nothing for you to gain access to.

My name is NOT Alessandro. That's just a tag Virginmedia sticks on some contributors. Please ignore it.

Seems to be a window of opportunity between 'closure' and deletion

https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/Virgin-Net-Email/m-p/5589405#M281647

although leaving mailboxes in a 'locked' condition for too long seems to be part of the reason VM got itself into this mess in the first place!

And VM phone staff are STILL sending callers to TalkTalk!
