I had forgotten my password and was asked to chsnge by user name. I did that but it was a g.mail account. I'm trying to change my user name back to my ntl sign in but I am going round in circles. I'm also trying to set up my e mail on my new phone

Under the new security arrangements implemented by VM once you change the sign in username for a VM account to a third party email address you cannot subsequently change it back to a VM email address including their legacy domains.

In order to set up the email account on your phone email app you will need to generate an app password for the account.  You can do this via the My Virgin Media account for the email address concerned. You will need to sign in using the gmail username and the VM account password.  Once you have the app password you can then set up the account on your phone using your full ntlworld email address as the username along with the generated password.
