I have been getting the server unreachable on my ntlworld.com account

an idea what is causing this and solution if any

It's a known issue.

Any problems you should try looking in https://www.virginmedia.com/help/service-status 

"We hope to fix this by 3 April at 14:04

Outage Identified and Raised

You might find that your Virgin Media Mail isn't working at the moment. We are sorry and working hard to restore your Mail service as quickly as possible."

apologies for late response just to let you know issue is mostly o.k  at the moment but am now considering leaving v.m
