My emails are being deleted after less than a day -  even if i log in to my VM webmail- they are still not there -

I'm receiving new emails but all my older emails have disappeared (except in my saved folder) and anything older than 1hr or 2 seems to just be deleted... This seems to have started since i got a new Samsung phone- although its essentially the same phone (just newer) i had  and I'm using the same Gmail /email ... i have looked through all my settings but cannot find anything wrong... please can some one help me????

Thanks for reaching out to us @beetbocks, and a very warm welcome to you!

Sorry to hear you have been having this issue with E-Mails being deleted from your inbox.

Have you checked your E-Mail settings?

You may have an auto delete setting set on your mail box or have them going into spam.

Thanks,

David_Bn

I have checked the settings and as far as I can see I have no auto delete or similar turned on.. see photo.

I'm fairly sure it's more to do with my phone.. I've just scrolled down my emails on my phone and they all disappeared before my eyes ..

To be honest that sounds to me as if you have the Gmail app on your new phone set to either delete, or more likely, archive emails when you swipe left or swipe right on an email. From personal experience I know that only the slightest movement as you scroll down the list of emails can cause them to disappear.

To check that, go to "settings" in the Gmail app and look for "Swipe action".

Touch that and it will show what Gmail will do when you swipe left and swipe right. Personally, I changed mine from "Archive" to "None".

If Gmail has been archiving these emails you should be able to find them in the "All mail" folder/label in the Gmail app.

Hi coenoby

I have deleted my gmail app account just to see if that was the issue - and the emails are still being deleted/disappearing from my VM webmail- see below screen shot below- i had my wife send me two emails which i received at 9.05am and now they have gone at the time i checked at 12.28pm.. no record of them at all-  (after reading your message- i did go into my gmail account and your quite right ,swipe was set up- i have now changed that to non)- but the question remains where are the emails going on VM webmail?.  Is there some setting in VM to delete emails older than a certain age 9and were talking hours not days/weeks)? although i have not touched any settings in VM .. as far as i know-  i simply set up the Gmail account as i have done every time i get a new phone.

Yours a very confused Beetbocks!!

VM do delete emails from the Trash folder after a week (although that rarely seems to happen with my VM email account) but there is no setting in VM webmail to enable a user to specify that emails are deleted from other folders after a set time.

"the question remains where are the emails going on VM webmail?."

Email apps such as the Gmail app syncronise the contents of email folders in the app and the webmail account. So an email deleted from the app also gets deleted from the webmail account - and vice versa. In most cases issues like yours are triggered by an email app rather than VM webmail.

Do you have any other email apps, for example, on another device, that accesses your VM email account?
