Quite a few forum posters in exactly the same situation  have reported that the 403 Forbidden error was resolved when they reset/changed their VM password.

Here's an example https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/Error-Code-403/

It would be worth trying that.

Hi Jean1964...  did you get this fixed... if so how ?  I've done all the usual... I different browsers (CHROME / EDGE), different machines (DESKTOP / LAPTOP), done the virus scan, cleared cache, cookies and what-not, tried an iPad and so forth - no change.

Went thru 'offshore support', got cut off numerous times but eventually  they reset pwd and waited 30 mins (and overnight)  but nothing doing.

All in all, not too pleased 😞

Hi @SC-UK,

Thank you for your post and welcome back to our community forums. We're here to help.

I'm so sorry to hear you're facing some issues accessing your email service/account. Can you clarify what steps you've taken thus far in an attempt to resolve this beyond what you've mentioned in your post here?

Thanks,

Hello Zach_R...  all of the actions attempted have involved PWD resets / waits / try again > 30mins later / overnight... done by me and by whoever answers the support-number (but isn't really proper tech.support person -   I can tell because I used to be tech.support in a major organisation).  I now have a ticket-nr and a 'could take 3 or so days for someone to call me).

Not very good really.

Tnx.

Thanks for the update @SC-UK

If a ticket has been raised with our IT team, rest assured it will be worked on and you will be contacted once resolved.

Tuning in

I am suffering from the dreaded forbidden message on my desk top when I try and sign in and I am therefore unable to send or receive emails on the desk top. I can however send and receive emails on my iPhone and my iPad. I have received an email allegedly from internet-security@virginmedia.com telling me to reset my VM password. However when I click on ‘generate new app password’ as directed it asks me to change my sign in email address to one that isn’t from VM. I don’t have an alternative email address, I have an ntlworld email address which I have had for years and which I don’t want to change as it is used for my business as well as socially and is on all my printed stationery etc. Can anybody help?

@spiney A recent security change by Virgin Media means that you now need to set a third party email address as the username for your Ntlworld email account.  This doesn't change the underlying email address just the way you access it.

So to move forward with this you will need to create a new third party email address for this purpose.  There are a number of free email providers such as MS Outlook and Gmail.
